Darn thing ate my post.

Summary: Awesome autotiles. And nice upgrade to customization set! Neither is included in the current overall download however, it may need updating.

It'd be great if we could get a few steampunkish buildings to then fiddle and add variety to. The worldmap lacks a little when it comes to large stretches of desert (which there are meant to be a lot of, with ships sailing the sand instead of water) and I'm hopeless at recoloring, so I'm not sure what to do about that. Fortunately desert on top of desert breaks some of the variety with 'waves' and dunes, so that helps. But yeah... steampunk/techy buildings would be great if anyone has any talent at that! I've spent the last few days searching.

I didn't know about the autotiles here, so I'd been using other bits and pieces collected around the place. Volcanoes from an old RM2k chipset and canyons/mountains from HungryMouse's Fieldmap. Here's a couple of shots - my towns are nowhere near as impressive as the ones shown here, but I don't want to create huge sprawling towns... would make the tileset rather large. And I'd rather focus on getting cities to look more appropriate to their area (which means editing in graphics, and I can't draw, really! Frown )

Anyway. Obviously no mists or fancy effects yet.

Sure hope someone adds a couple new building varieties and posts here. Smile

I like it, Scribblette. You might want to be careful with the rocks though. They're sea rocks (as they have the blue underneath to suggest they are partially underwater). Your town designs look great and very original. However, I'm not too sure the volcanos fit. I'll give you credit for the town designs though, as they've already made me take an interest in your world map design.

Edit: I thought Mew's auto-tiles were in the collection now. I'll have a look into that. I'm afraid we haven't had many town design submissions lately or in general, but hopefully some people will be encouraged to try some. Smile

Sorry, I won't be doing any steampunk type stuff. I feel it promotes too many Final Fantasy rip offs. We get far too many too many of those in the community.

Ah, that's a pity. Given my game is set in 'our' future I'm not too worried about it coming across as a FF rip off... perhaps reminiscent of Xenogears eventually if anything.

Hm, perhaps steampunk wasn't the right word. Fortified... against machines... using the very basics of technology... where they don't have a good grasp of the tech they're using as is, either... *muses* I'm not sure. I've been finding chopping the pretty rooftops off the buildings works surprisingly well for those areas. Heh. They're only visited very briefly anyway before becoming players later, but ya, whatever, I ramble whenever I get annoyed at part of what I'm writing sounding cliché when I've worked pretty hard to ensure it's not entirely that.

I'm partly colorblind, so thanks for pointing out the rocks. XD Makes working alone on this stuff rather difficult!!

As per the town design, I was looking to make it so it reflected the actual area within that the player wanders through. Regarding the volcanoes - I know. Heh. Unfortunately I have to go by what artwork I can find lying around and then edit that as best I can - metal isn't a naturally occuring substance on the planet, so whatever metal is used must be smeltered from the debris left over in ruined cities, via somewhat natural smelting points (volcanos the closest thing I could find for this)... burning of plastics etc releases rather unfriendly smog, slaves/prisoners used to mine and smelt the region rich in metals, thus the billowing smoke is sometimes referred to as the Mists of Sin, though there's nothing much sinful about the mists... I gibber again.

You get the idea. I'm not an artist, I'm not a scripter, and I'm not a fantastic writer, but I'm a perfectionist so I get to waddle around looking constipated at my efforts all day.

Edit: Oh, and at least FF-rip off chaps are still being creative! Heh. But yes. I'm not naming my story Xeno-whatnot or Final Fantasy Gablobillion or anything, so, yeah...

And I didn't upload the city as a custom town or anything because the current incarnation is really just a placeholder graphic, as most of my stuff is until I can release a demo to garner the interest of better artists to replace my junk and make it look decent, heh!

*fiddling with industrial era buildings, will update post with screenies later today hopefully*

Y'know, it's a pity to let FF fanboys get in the way and not create anything steampunkish... considering there's several genres out there that could use 'em. A whole range of legit non-FF sci-fi options get wiped out.

Need to work out how to use palettes and shading and gradients when I'm just using Graphics Gale. Hrm.

IHave a question about making those cities: How do you make those cities? Do you make them in the actual map maker thingy, or do you stick them together in paint?

Doubt it. There's HUNDREDS of tiles, and four diretions for each as well as bush flags etc. you'd be better off trying to figure it out your self. Although, if you don't know how to make it so that the bottom third of an actor is obscured like for a forest, i too would like to know, so the next person who sees this, if they know i, and posibly others, would like to know.

I keep tryin' to download this worldmap tileset but I get this:

I replaces my IP address in the error with "MY.IP".

Can anyone tell me why I'm gettin' that error?

My word.. I'm sorry, but that is lesson Numero Uno. When you import the file, you right/left-click the background to set the transparency.

All I can say to anyone using RMXP is this: Before you ask questions, read the Help File, it's there for a reason.

Thankyou for your time.

This is my first post, and basically I've downloaded it, but I can't import them.

But they are amazing. Awesome work. Laugh

It's okay I figured it out. It involved copying and pasting. It must have taken at least 5 minutes.

Or reading ONE POST ABOVE YOU. Or the Palace homepage. Or one of the many threads about that we've had.

And yet you still copy and pasted it?

The World Tileset is awesome but I don't have the time for creating such a masterpiece like this. This is the reason why I have to ask you:

May someone edit the wwhole world map (http://www.rpg-palace.com/artists/xpworld.php) so that I can 'copy -> paste' it in my little RPG please? Would be very nice Smile

If you don't have time to do that, then where are you going to find time to make a game??

In my freetime! Doing the creative part with the monsters and abilitys is easy and doesn't take much time for me but creating such a great big world without looking boring is for me impossible or it would take years Frown

Well, I'm afraid you cannot have my map for your own game. That's just stealing my work! Even then, surely you can't make a game based around a bunch of random maps you ask for over the net!

I'm just new to this site. But I wanted to say "thanks" for the wonderful looking tilesets, Inquisitor. Sorry, if this is a noob question but can they be used in a commercial product? I can't find a license agreement to say one way or another. Thanks.

I believe you have to download the world map set and it comes with it. But I've heard that it only has one map set, which is annoying. I think each tileset has the passablities for it set, so you'll have to download them all again.

From the downloads page, click on the Worl Map Tileset. It will show the full details of the tileset with screenshots. There should be two links on the left of the page, "Download" and "Demo."

I AM ANGERED!! I can't use this tileset as I'm still using 2k3. Aw, well. I guess it's time to upgrade, huh?

There are four truths in life that all must come to terms with:
1. I will die and all that I am will cease to be.
2. I am born alone and will die alone. I can never truly know another.
3. The suffering in my life is my own creation. I create my reality through my choices.
4. ALL meaning is arbitrary and relative. Life is ultimately meaningless.
