How to Connect to our IRC Channel!

If you just want a direct link to the channel, click below. Make sure you understand how to register etc. It is all in this guide. *Note* Using the direct link does not work with every IRC client. mIRC is known to work for sure.

Aletarius’s Guide to IRC Connective-ness!

Alrighty! First, you’re going to need to get yourself an IRC Client! There are a few you can get!

Mibbit (in the web browser, so no installation is necessary)
mIRC (The most popular one)
Trillian (If you use more than one messenger, this is another option)
ChatZilla (If you use FireFox as a browser, this is another choice)

I will explain how to get situated in this guide through the method of using mIRC as your client. The Commands should be the same however.

mIRC is a shareware client, you can use it for 30 days and then they ask for you to pay for it in the form of a donation. You can however, keep using it after the initial 30 days.

Step by Step Guide to connecting to our server and joining our channel!

1) Open up your client. Go over each of the options; make sure to set your name and email to whatever you want it to be. Now, what you want to do is type the following without the quotations: “/server irc.ecnet.org
2) Now, the client will connect to the server that you told it to connect. Wait until it does, it should take a few seconds. When you have connected, to join the channel type in the following: “/join #rpg-town”. This will let you enter our channel.
3) Now you can talk and do whatever you wish to do.

Good Luck and Have Fun IRC’ing! Remember to follow the topic guidelines in IRC and follow forum rules when in the IRC channel!

** Voice Permissions are automatically assigned upon channel entry so registering your nickname is not necessary anymore unless you are a channel operator (admins). This means, normal access level members do not have to identify anymore! **

Is this still applicable? I joined the channel but it was completely empty, it didn't exist.

I stopped even bothering to log in after several months of inactivity. If people want to start up again, we can idle in the channel and say hi when we see each other.

Yeah, but it's more fun to find somebody in a place you can have a quick conversation, instead of just passing notes back and forth over time.

True, but as is apparent in many places, not just this place alone, it's hard to maintain such a thing as people get busier in their lives, or just get caught up in work or school and forget about it.

Hey guyz, what does everyone think about four legged mammals? I think they're really neat.

In all sincerity, though, it's a good idea if enough people are around! I'll have a look at it tonight. Beats facebook chat at the very least *shudder*.

There are Moose Tracks, Bunny Tracks and Wolf Tracks. They're all essentially the same thing with minor differences. They might even be different brands, too.

Strong Bad is epic. I should check his page out more often.

On ice cream, I only really like vinilla because you can't screw that up, as you can with other flavors, and if you do, then you are a Fail and should consider stop making ice cream.

One must also consider the fat that Strong Bad has no power other than within the confines of his own site, as would a Hermit Crab only have power within its own shell.

I've never really considered fat, honestly. I'm always like "Huh, that looks good. I'll think I'll eat it."

Fat is often where most of the flavor is for meat. Which is why chefs don't remove all of it; it adds a lot of dimension to a dish. Some would take the fat rind off of pork or beef and add it to simmer in a sauce or gravy, then remove afterward, for more flavor.

I knew that, but too much fat can be digusting. A bigger problem in my house is that my dad hates blood, so when we eat meat ti can't be pink in any form or way, which sucks. Frown

Too much fat is bad, agreed. Not to the point where there's rubbery strips in the meat, I hated that as a child.

...it would be cool if everyone had a chat-room they could go to. I'm not sure if the IRC is still open for RPG Town though.

Well I'm logged in (I think), but there's no-one here. Egg was on earlier telling me to hop on, but the flippin' pc's at school won't let me "change" the computer without been an administrator! Frown Should it look like this?

Spoiler: Highlight to view

note i'm using mIRC

UPDATE: Turns out I don't have a brain after all... Frown
In that picture, I was in channel "#Join", which of course was empty! I'm now in channel #rpg-town though, So it's all good Smile (but still empty!)

Karl, what is you time zone? You've got me all confused. In the other thread you said you were at -12GMT. Now, you're saying that it's 10 PST when it's your 1. That would mean you're EST, right? That's -5GMT. I should know, it's my time zone.

There are four truths in life that all must come to terms with:
1. I will die and all that I am will cease to be.
2. I am born alone and will die alone. I can never truly know another.
3. The suffering in my life is my own creation. I create my reality through my choices.
4. ALL meaning is arbitrary and relative. Life is ultimately meaningless.

now you've got me all confused with double posting thingy.
Okay, I'm in New Zealand, which is +12 GMT, so to make it the normal GMT time, you would -12 GMT, right?
And I thought to get Pacific it was + 3 from the normal NZ time... Confused
Anywway, were both on now, so I'll see you now! Laugh

UPDATE!: Mibbit doesn't connect to the other ones! If your on Mibbit you can't talk to other people who are on, say mIRC! Gasp

It must have been +3 but then switch the am or pm to the other one... oh dear my mistake!
And, you can use mibbit to work with the other ones if you make the server ECNet like this

But of course changing your nickname!

Whens the best GMT time to log in? I was on 4 like an hour but no one seemed to show and it was the one I used last night when chatting with super duck and Karl so it's gotta be the one.
Is their even a time when everyone's up and free @ the same time? Confused sounds Impossible but it's worth a try...
Guess I'll wait for PM's like last time and let fate decide.

Apologies for not being around all that much this week - it's been busy! If people are using the IRC channel again then I shall most certainly log in whilst I'm online, in the hope of being online whilst some of you are about(!). I'm usually on MSN Messenger whilst online too, so if anybody has that it would be great to chat on there! (Address in my profile.)
