The Palace Top 20 Albums

The Palace Top 20 Albums

The deadline is December 31st. You might want to consider that GMT midnight will be the closing hour.

Your list must contain at least 10 albums. After that, you're free to list any number you like; however, only a maximum of 20 will be awarded points. I would advise you stick closer to the 10 end than the 20 if you can.

Nos singles, compilations, or "extended re-release + b-sides and bonus tracks". standard EPs and LPs only.

Points will be awarded like this:

Your #1 album gets 20 points
Your #2 album gets 19 points
Your #3 album gets 18 points

and so forth.

And that should cover it. GET LISTING.

I have no real powers over this, but I much prefer music to film, so I created this thread instead

Hurrah for I ___ Blood! What do you reckon to Carcass, they're the only true Death Metal band that I really enjoy. Going to see Arch Enemy next year though (alongside the mighty Opeth) =).

EDIT: Oh, saw CoB last year. Didn't do it for me live unfortunately, but rather fun on record.

Carcass is pretty good though they are a bit Grindcore as well as Death Metal. I don't think CoB is that great live either, but they make some great songs.

I can't believe I left Unknown Pleasures at a measley number 11 actually, that should be so much higher. That and The Velvet Underground & Nico are the two most important rock albums ever released, in my opinion.

I haven't heard the new British Sea Power yet, but am extremely glad it's good Laugh. I got into them through the second album. I instantly fell in love with it, but nowadays I find it a little thin (but still a cracking selection of songs mind!). The first album however gets better every time I listen to it, and is one of the few albums on which the second half is better I think! Still not checked out Magazine yet, bar the rendition of 'Song From Under The Floorboards' that Morrissey give us last year; definitely a Fopp trip on the cards before I head back off to uni, I think. Can never decide which CUre album's my favourite, although I do like the other two of that 'trilogy'; Pornography itself is a little like Ocean Rain for me: some people are too harsh on it, and some people too praiseworthy. Franz near the top takes me back to when I used to play that album loads, and seeing them just perform that album's material. Haven't listened to that in ages!

GrooveBean: Is that Sonic Youth one a good 'un, then? Slowly working my way through them at the moment; I love Goo to bits.

Well, I definitely enjoy it. But, then again, I can't say I've ever heard anything bad by them.

Sister is pretty good too, if you've not heard it.

I forgot to include The Velvet Underground & Nico in my honorable mentions, and Link's post reminded me that I left Favourite Worst Nightmare out...

I always found Experimental, Jet Set.. to be the worst Sonic Youth album, although that may have something to do with the fact that I prefer their noise rock in Goo and Evol to the punk in Daydream Nation et al.

EDIT - Hope of the States' first album was left out too, so hard to narrow it down to just twenty!
