(Not just Frogmen) A little piece for RPG Palace.

<span style='font-family:Courier'><span style='font-size:9pt;line-height:100%'><span style='color:lightgreen'>FROGMEN THIEVES!</span></span></span>

Uncle Inq comes before you to pronouce his latest piece!

These little scamps are known to ambush poor travellers along the main toads, uh, *roads. This is just an inbetween night job on my way to my main pieces for the Palace. Of course, if I don't do these sort of things, I'm not really a regular contributer, am I?
The piece took a fair few hours, since I seemed to be in a right block at the beginning and the head looked like a complete mess on my first attempt. (That was yesterday, today I was much better with it).

So, without further adieu - For quality pixelling tips, ask someone who cares - I present the Toad of the Road:

Oh, and if you are curious, the rabbit from LunC's The Way in my sig is my creation.

Slow days ask for small artwork, well there you have it, ladies and gentlemen.
Enjoy. Smile ©

this is are really good.. the only thing I don't like is the legs.. they don't really look like frog's legs.. but! its fine.. you did a great job on them

Thanks for the nice comment, SaW. The legs are supposed to be small, since toads have big, bulbous bellies and thin limbs. If you mean it by the fact that they aren't bent in a read to jump position, that is because he is wearing boots that go all the way up and he's standing, not crouching.

And here's another lot of thieves I've made this morning:

"Outta me way, or I cuts me way through."

Enjoy further. Smile ©

I presume that these are battle sprites for a side-view battle system?

The actual size doesn't allow you to go into as much shading detail as perhaps possible with larger monsters, but in their smaller size they look fine anyway, and I imagine you've already tried them out in RM2K3 or something Smile. The 'Toads Of The Road' are delightfully charming little buggers Grin.

What I really like about your stuff is that you've developed your own little style: I can tell if something's sprited by you now just by looking at it. The "rabbit" in your sig scares the hell out of me, though Smile.

Yeah, these are side-view monster sprites. They are made in a similar style to Maxy's sprites, but are a little more cartoony based.

Quote:

Actually, I'm trying to leave out as much detail as possible. I'm aiming in the direction of the low-colour pixel works.

Quote:

and I imagine you've already tried them out in RM2K3 or something

Nope, I'm really lazy with the testing. I'm sure they'd work.

Yeah, I'm getting much better at it now and am not bodging the graphics, which I used to do a lot, so overall I am ending up with significantly improved pieces.

Quote:

Very nice! You should make a character set of them too, it'd be great!

Ooh, not for a bit. I have other stuff to be getting along with.

And now, if those pieces weren't enough, I have another little chap. He's more of a frog than a toad this time, but equally sinister! (There is a reason for the goggles, but that's still in production)

Technically speaking, this should go in Game Development, but because they kick so much ass I'm going to leave them where they might actually get seen.

This one has a little different an approach, since I decided to go with a muscular type instead of my previous porky guys. There's one guy to shift it around, and the other one to aim.:

There are some bits of the cannon that I don't like, which I will fix up later (Just minor shading bits, like at some points I don't think it black enough and so forth and I'll probably change that nozzle rim completely), but you can get the general idea from that.

Enjoy #3 Smile ©

This one is once again showing that toads are just as fun as frogs. A much bigger chap this time, but still only uses the samish amount of colours. (Same as the cannon, less that the spearman). Here he is, Mr Big:

Don't get me angry pal, you wouldn't like me when I'm angry...

It may be a little had to see the chains he is holding, since the background is dark, so you can always copy and paste the address of it (http://www.rpg-palace.com/inquisitor/Frogm...gmansheet10.png) into the address bar to see it on a white background.

Enjoy on a very large scale. Smile ©

Here is a different viewpoint of the <span style='font-family:Courier'><span style='font-size:9pt;line-height:100%'><span style='color:lightgreen'>FROGLODYTE!</span></span></span>, since the Froglodytes will be a part of a bigger, boss-type enemy.

I like the concepts, nice dithering also

It may just be me but I find the giant toad/frog to be just too bright green for his size
and it's always good to mix things up.

Congratulations on doing a full dedicated job on these.

They're small, they're cute, they're <span style='font-family:Courier'><span style='font-size:9pt;line-height:100%'><span style='color:lightgreen'>TOADPOLES AND FROGNOSTICATORS!</span></span></span>

Frog 'em, boys!

These chaps are smaller than the others. For battling these, I'm picturing the "large pack of them that are easy to kill as individuals, but hard to beat when together" sort of thing. The Toadpoles would be there to protect (Block any attacks from the player) the Frognosticator, who would deliver the nasty attacks. The magi use a lot more colours than the others, obviously, but only the same amount of shades. Wink
The stronger the lightsource, the greater the level of contrast, for example on the fireballs - a little tip for people practicing.

Enjoy. Smile ©

Think that I can only handle Frogmen? Not bloody likely. As this was an entirely new design, it took a bit longer, so I only have one at the moment. This race would take a bit longer to make for each individual monster as they are larger (In general) and more detailed, so I won't be doing as much of them.

<span style='font-family:Courier'><span style='font-size:9pt;line-height:100%'><span style='color:orange'>GOATMAN!</span></span></span>

Whadd'ya goat?

I'll throw in a few variations later. I'm planning to have the goatmen being formidable marksmen as strong. Speed won't be an asset for these enemies, unlike the Frogmen (Speedy jumpers, obviously), so they probably won't be equipped with swords and other light weaponry.

This one can't exactly be used for any battles, I was just having a bit of fun and seeing what I could do. Excluding the lighting effects I've added, there is only about 40 different colours on there, which is pretty darn good.
Instead of being armed with an axe, he's armed with a guitar, the most poweful weapon of modern times. As an extra bonus, I've even added the surrounding area instead of just the sprite, which puts him in the setting he is most used to.

<span style='font-family:Courier'><span style='font-size:9pt;line-height:100%'><span style='color:yellow'>R</span></span></span><span style='font-family:Courier'><span style='font-size:9pt;line-height:100%'><span style='color:lightblue'>O</span></span></span><span style='font-family:Courier'><span style='font-size:9pt;line-height:100%'><span style='color:lightgreen'>C</span></span></span><span style='font-family:Courier'><span style='font-size:9pt;line-height:100%'><span style='color:red'>K</span></span></span><span style='font-family:Courier'><span style='font-size:9pt;line-height:100%'><span style='color:yellow'>I</span></span></span><span style='font-family:Courier'><span style='font-size:9pt;line-height:100%'><span style='color:lightblue'>N</span></span></span><span style='font-family:Courier'><span style='font-size:9pt;line-height:100%'><span style='color:lightgreen'>' <span style='font-family:Courier'><span style='font-size:19pt;line-height:100%'><span style='color:red'>G</span></span></span><span style='font-family:Courier'><span style='font-size:9pt;line-height:100%'><span style='color:yellow'>O</span></span></span><span style='font-family:Courier'><span style='font-size:9pt;line-height:100%'><span style='color:lightblue'>A</span></span></span><span style='font-family:Courier'><span style='font-size:9pt;line-height:100%'><span style='color:lightgreen'>T</span></span></span><span style='font-family:Courier'><span style='font-size:9pt;line-height:100%'><span style='color:red'>M</span></span></span><span style='font-family:Courier'><span style='font-size:9pt;line-height:100%'><span style='color:yellow'>A</span></span></span><span style='font-family:Courier'><span style='font-size:9pt;line-height:100%'><span style='color:lightblue'>N</span></span></span><span style='font-family:Courier'><span style='font-size:9pt;line-height:100%'><span style='color:lightgreen'>!</span></span></span>

The new addition is huawesome... but the right shoulder appears somewhat akward... I understand you kept with the anatomy of a goat with the two jointed limbs, but the shoulder looks too far removed from the pectorial (spelling?) muscle. Maybe it's just me.

Thanks for the positive feedback.

- Simple colour change.

The shoulders of the goatmen are supposed to be rather large as I want them to have a really bulky upper body, as they are supposed to be extremely powerful (Upper body wise)

More coming. Wink
Cotton Swabs, Marshmellows? Looks like metal to me. This particular type of mace has spikes on the sides in order to add that nasty bit of pain to the kill. If it hits a non-vital area or almost misses, it can drag flesh away and render an enemy almost helpless. Not a good way to go, really. Smile
Of course, if the enemy is still prepared to fight, one good hit will pretty much cripple their bones and stop them pretty quickly.
The more you know.
