lucky for me. nothing happened to me.

it was one of those old big square monitors, first the screen went off.

then followed tiny little spark (inside the glass) after 10-15 of these

BOOM! small explosion, luckily the screen resisted the blast

(it broke, but the shards stayed in place.)

I was like "WTF?! DOOD!" then realized what happened. XD

P.S: I wish I'd taken a picture but a camera's never there when you need it T_T

Glad you're OK. Must have been some experience.

I am so tantalizingly close with my remake of RGSS using Gosu for Ruby. Everything seems to work, but I must be doing something wrong in certain places because I get internal errors and segfaults doing specific things. Also, I have to debug the Tilemap class. But it works! Scene_Title works, except for loading the jpg background image and the MIDI bgm.

what can you get out of using gosu for ruby?

more XP compatibility? well I'm a bit curious XD

Play games on Mac or Linux. It should also hopefully improve performance since Gosu is hardware accelerated using OpenGL.

Turns out that my original Tilemap class is basically flawless, although my new faster-loading Table was getting indeces wrongly so the tiles didn't get fetched correctly. I'm having non-Ruby errors now (segfaults from the interface to Gosu, which is written in C++) as well as performance niggles.

Sounds interesting. I hope that you can get those errors smoothed out soon.

I recently purchased Zelda: Oracle of Seasons still in box for 30$. I don't have that many retro hand-held games.

Hmm I still have my OoS game (I bought it when gbc games were at peak sales)

I say it was a really interesting Zelda game.

but I never got to play on gbc Oracle of Ages, (later I played it on emulator,

it has many ocarina of time references I'd say)

however I would have loved to do the link cable thing, to fight ganon get the

L-3 sword and shield, use secrets etc...

Perhaps. I do hope that the forum picks up again; it has of late, but more would be appreciated. Summer is coming soon, and this might help a bit.

I'm currently waiting for some food to finish cooking. Mashed potatoes, ground beef and corn, fantastic. A friend of mine from work was supposed to drop by this afternoon so that we could play some games, but he did not show up and I did not receive any call to say that he wasn't coming. Unfortunately this happens all too often with me, and I should be used to it by now, but it doesn't change the fact that they waste half of my day waiting for them to show up.

well I'm putting my bet on the psp's ad-hoc mode, since the PSN is still down, my presonal info got compromised my firends decided to gather and form a ad-hoc party.

it's fun, you can take snacks with you and if someone wants a break, it's quite possible unlike infrastructure mode, best part is... NO PSN.

well they told me I had to reset my password, so they sent me an email. however my mail from the PSN has not yet arrived, then apparently they said it takes around 24 hours to get it. but so far no mail for me......

I´m on quite a tight spot right now, Sony doesn´t seem to handle the situation very gracefully.

so in the end, I´m still sticking to my 6.20 TN-HEN..... now with 6.38 version.txt meaning the psp thinks I´m already updated to the latest OFW

well the PSN (Playstation network) only let´s a psp connect to it if it reads that the psp is already in the latest firmware (version 6.38) but sad to say a psp on firmware 6.38 cannot run homebrew nor play iso backups of their games,

so people with old firmware capable of running homebrews and iso backups (like me) couldn´t enter the PSN because it would force us to update and lose all our homebrew goodness (and seriously I don´t want to lose my ported cave story game T-T)

So 2 devs came with an exploit that lets you access the psp´s version text, and even better alter it. so by replacing your outdated version text with 6.38´s text file, you could fool your psp into thinking you already updated into the latest firmware while keeping your old firmware and STILL access the PSN.

Ah, now I understand. Most likely some people would own two PSP's for the sake of homebrews as well as access to the Network before these were introduced to the internet.

That is disappointing, I've yet to purchase one. I am still in the midst of collecting for the DS, and it took some time before I was able to find an affordable used DS Lite. When I saw NGP I immediately thought of the Neo Geo Pocket. I would love that for my collection.

My parents bought a 3DS when they came out (there was a rather generous deal at the UK arm of Gamestop involving trading in your old DS) but it hasn't seen much 3D action, yet. Pilotwings was entertaining though worryingly shallow for a full-price computer game. I'm just counting down the days until Ocarina of Time comes out - any excuse to give that another whirl! Generally speaking I dislike the experience of playing games on a portable machine, but I shall make an exception in this case.

I'm was saving for either a 3DS or a NGP. but then after reading the horrors of sony's bad efforts on the PSN I clearly decided to discard the NGP, besides I still trust the PSP will get a pretty active afterlife with all the psp devs around.

....which brings me to the following dillema: should I or should I not get a 3DS?

well I got 3 factor that need answers before deciding

1) does the 3D work? and what I mean by work is, does the 3D effect feel satisfactory?     or was it a plain effect that eventually makes your eyes hurt and shut it down?

2) did the graphics improve? before the 3DS. Persons compared the PSP vs the NDS       and when it came to graphics, the PSP won hands down (the most significant notice       would be the KH games, the PSP owned 358 days graphic wise), so how much did       the graphics improve on the 3DS?

3) Is the game selection worth it? sure besides the sweet incoming OoT 3D title coming       and the various 3D remakes of N64 classics like starfox, will there be a good list of         games to go around?

those would be the 3 points I'd like to have cleared out before shopping time. on the worst-case-scenario I might just end up getting a ipod, and fill it up with anime episodes... who knows, possibilities are endless.

Please note the following is all imo:

1. It's dizzying and headache-inducing after not very long. It's good that you don't need glasses, but essentially all they did was move the glasses further from your head and closer to the screen. It still gives that weird feeling where it's hard to focus on something that's on a different 'plane' so to speak. Simulated 3D is not suitable for human eyes, and likely never will be.

2. Yes, the graphics are much better. I think people have been comparing it to PS2/GC quality, though I haven't personally seen any games that really show its true powers (and, honestly, few games really will I'm sure).

3. No. OoT 3D makes me sick. This is the second time Nintendo has re-released the game with VERY little changes with the sole intention of getting people to buy the same exact game again. And obviously they aren't stopping just with OoT. Metal Gear Solid will be sweet, though.

IN CONCLUSION: The 3DS is, imo, a huge waste of money. Games like MGS on it will be sweet, but you'll most likely end up turning off the 3D visuals because of how distracting it is, and then you might as well just play a PSP. I'm slightly biased, I can't stand Nintendo in recent years. I despise their cheap tricks to make more money, churning out games that are direct clones of previous games and claiming they're brand new all because you can now shake the controller to double jump. Wow what an advancement!! Super Mario Bros Wii is identical to SMB3/World. Donkey Kong Returns is the exact same as Donkey Kong Country. Mario Galaxy 2 is the exact same as Galaxy 1. It's infuriating that Nintendo is SO absurdly scared of taking risks with their IPs. They've done it before and it was hugely successful, i.e. Super Smash Bros. All of the N64 versions of their IPs (OoT, Mario 64, Starfox, etc) were hugely successful because they were brand new experiences that were very refreshing. After playing the same thing for 10+ years, maybe it's time for a change.

I will not be purchasing the 3DS. The only reason that I am purchasing another DS model is because the XL happens to be better for my home-gaming needs compared to the Lite. Most of the games that I would want to play are already on the DS, therefore there isn't much for me to see in a gimmicky hand-held such as the 3DS.

well thank you very much CSC. I shall avoid then the 3DS for now,

ah... times like these make me wish Sega would release another console, the dreamcast wasn´t that bad, it just sadly got eclipsed by the Ps2 and the GC. kinda makes you wonder what new games it would dish out rather than repetitive sonic spinoff games.

I got to watch 2 really good anime films.

1) Steamboy, an alternate version of (was it london? I forgot, probably because there was a queen on the film) where steam-powered technology is at it´s finest (blimps, steam-motors, steam-jet etc...) and a kid receives a letter from his grandpa and a mechanical device called "the balloon" (I watched this in spanish so the translated is balloon I don´t know if it´s called like that in english) however briefly after he gets it, people from different companies start trying to kidnap both the kid and the device,

2) Paprika, in modern japan, there is a team of scientists who have created an head-gear called the "DC mini" this device is used to watch and record a presons dreams into a HI-DEF video codec (something I would find rather interesting if this were to happen in real life), the team of scientists use a self-made avatar called "Paprika" to enter other people´s dreams for phsychoanalysis (say a patient suffers from depression, they can alter your dreams so they stimulate more happiness etc...) but suddenly the DC mini gets stolen and is used on terrorist mind attacks.

but you know rather than me telling you about it, why don´t I show you?

here´s the english trailer for steamboy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bI7-bx8QqZ8

and here is the opening of the movie paprika: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xqg3Sw3s9Wg

P.S: The movie Paprika is NOT for children audiences, do not be fooled, it contains a slight scene of rape/nudity and the movie itself if not understood properly can be a very confusing Mindfuck.

YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED, nontheless a very awesome movie

I saw Paprika, it was pretty...strange. One of those things where you can suddenly realize that you're extremely confused about what's really going on.

I feel like mentioning that I saw Your Highness. Funny crude humor in a fantasy setting. Nothing that has you wondering about the ending, but it's pretty entertaining nonetheless.

I'm just being flippant, RAVSO Smile.

I find most anime heavygoing (i.e. very dull) though I've found the vast majority of Studio Ghibli films I've seen to be utterly delightful. Spirited Away and Grave of the Fireflies deserve to be seen by all regardless of being 'one of dem japoneese cartoons', and Nausicaa is an outstanding adventure film but I've enjoyed many more. I particularly admired Whisper of the Heart and Only Yesterday.

The very world of Nausicaa is one that I am enamored with, I still remember the music of the scene when the princess was flying over the Polluted Sea. Such a haunting piece fits very well with that landscape.

My computer's broke Frown Hard drive has been corrupted. I will be trying as hard as I can to recover the partition. The hard drive itself did not actually fail, so right now I'm using the Windows side of my Mac which was unaffected. It's not as good for battery life, though, and doesn't have any of my data. I've been posting my work on Theocracy fairly often but I'm really worried that I might lose my work on the ship tileset. Also I don't want to have to redownload the entire website again to switch hosts.
