The basic program designed for creating sprites for RPG Maker, iDraw has seen quite a bit of usage by the community since it appeared several years back. It is very useful for creating sprites if you don't have any expensive programs like Photoshop or Paintshop Pro, and iDraw is a much better alternative than Paint.

One of the best pixel art programs out there. Extremely flexible and easy to use, it's recommended that anybody interested in the craft try this program. The interface is much cleaner and easier to navigate than iDraw, and unlike iDraw Graphics Gale is designed for pixel art on any level. Tilesets, sprites, or anything else for that matter. This is probably one of the best programs you can use next to the big commercial programs. There is a free version and a shareware version, however the free version has many great features in it already like animating, designing, and applying image effects to your pixel art.

Perhaps one of the most coveted RPG_RT hacking programs of all-time. This baby can change the icon, import special symbols, and import splash screens painlessly. It works for both RPG Maker 2000 and 2003, so it's a convenient program. Unlike Zeromus' Rm2k Resource Editor, this program does not feature a built in special symbol editor.

This is a handy program that works for only RPG Maker 2000. It scans your project for orphaned resources that aren't currently being used in your game. It's an easy way to cut down your file size when you're getting ready to release a demo.

This great program can do a multitude of things for RPG Maker 2000. It has a built in symbol editor, a function to import your own splash screens, and it looks like an option to import a custom RPG_RT icon is also avaliable. This is a really nice program, but unfortunately it only works for the RPG Maker 2000's RPG_RT.exe files.
