FFIX Zone Name Display - Maxy's Tidbits

A recent query on the Palace forums was for area names to fade onto the screen when you enter a new zone, Final Fantasy IX style. It's a nice and easy technique that can look quite effective. You'll need a picture file for each zone. In this example, we'll call the zone "Map City". Pretend we want the Map City picture to appear at co-ordinates X=200, Y=100.

On the Map City map create a new event with a Parallel Process event trigger. We're going to use a few picture commands here. I'm sure you understand the concept of "Show Picture", having set up it's X and Y coordinates. Well, now set its transparency, top and bottom half, to 100%. We don't want the picture to be visible when we enter the map, but instead to gently fade in. You should also be familiar with "Move Picture", a very handly command. You won't want to change the X and Y co-ords here, so make sure they're the same as before, but the transparency needs to be 0%. Make the transition time around 2 seconds. With a pause and then another Move Picture to fade it out to 100% transparency, you'll have the desired effect. Finally, add "Erase Event" at the bottom to stop it repeating. It should look like this:

Now every time you enter Map City the welcome picture will come up.
