Alright here me go.
To open the artist guild I want to post my first character sheet since I got a scanner I can now make much more detailed and fast drawings. I'll describe him later as for now I want to tell you about the artist guild:

I was thinking it would be really awesome we could draw a bunch of resources for this site. That's me and anyone who has a scanner, graphics tab or is just a skilled spriter or image editor and is up for making some really cool resources exlusive to this site...for now I'll start of by drawing some face-sets, character sheets that can also be used as battlers ( if so tell me so I can re-size them for ya ) and a bunch of torso shots. I would love it if maybe I could get a colorist who can edit any of the drawing's I'll post up since coloring isn't exactly my strongest point when it comes to drawing.
I'm also looking for the following artists:
>Spriters
>Image Editors ( Coloring and Shading )
>Background/Landscape Artists
>Calligraphers for titles and text art
>Visionists. That's you who has an idea that would be cool but you don't have the stuff to make it.

It doesn't have to be restricted to anything specific and I would like it if you also posted you own original work with dew respects. You can also mention weather you want to simple show your work or also have it as a free resource. Personally I would like it if we could make free resources with credits dew.

Thanks Wink

Character Sheet #1

Spoiler: Highlight to view
A Power hungry scientist who used technology and sacred crystals to give him supernatural powers. He is now the lord of darkness. Ruthless and evil he has no mercy and will do anything to reach the zenith of power. However the more he uses his powers of dark science or "magic" he slowly loses his soul spiraling into insanity as he transforms his human self into a Demon. Zerk Zeus is what they call him meaning Devil God. His powers include:
>Soul sucking to keep him alive and sane
>Lightning and Thunder like Zeus but used for evil
>Half Demonic power, he can transform temporarily into a Demon but losing alot of soul energy for extra power.
>Shadow magic. He can use darkness and manifest it into energy

Know any good coloring schemes for this?

Well... I suppose I can try and help, I'll go ahead and tick "I have no idea, but I'll help"!
I suppose I can give a whirl at spriting, since no-one here can do that :Eyesroll:
I dunno...
I'll have a look and see if I'm slightly less terrible than expected... Laugh

Alright Karl, hope it works out. Guess no one dose spriting cause its not that hard but it takes alot of time and persistence
but I'm sure if you give it a shot or two you'll get the hang of it.

Now that I have photo-shop and illustrator I'm going to try and improve my Zerk Zeus drawing as well as the rest of my stuff. Dose anyone know where I can get a quick inrto for the programs? Nothing too detailed just a tutorial on how to use all the features and add light effects. Oh plus got my drawing set now too.

Laugh Nice pose Karl! Its good for a fixed sprite, you know like those action scenes when the guy pulls out his gun and BLAM!
I'm currently busy with some other stuff so the picture will have to wait a bit...
Hey Punk Blood! How did the Hie Sprite come along... Sorry I think I was supposed to help you with that right?
Unfortunately I'm not a pro spriter but I'm sure Yami's Frankenstein tutorial can help with that. That's how I make my
few custom sprites anyway... Still on that Yu Yu Hakusho project or are you now doing the resident evil one only?

Hehe
Done to proportion that would be a fun sprite Monowix.

I'm busy as current but I'd help maybe next week or later same as posting some fresh stuff up here.

Tweaked out a sprites hair and skin tone, this is how she turned out. I liked it so much that she's become on of my main characters for my new project. I think I'm gonna work on custom resources and mapping for now since I'm still thinking of a solid plot that wont be too ambitious.
But god damn is it hard making a sprite from scratch...

Here are the originals that led to that.I saved using bitmap as I think you all know for easy editing and I got the original sprite from this site. VX Custom Sprites...
An X.P one is Lose Leaf-X.P Custom Sprites in-case you want to edit a custom sprite too. Post it here if you don't mind too.

Oh I lost the original original but the hair was slightly different. I added the fringe in the middle.

Here is her faceset.
Hand drawn, edited on gimp.

I think I'm gonna do my face-sets like this from now on. I may make another version with more shading.

Greens. Blues. Mostly greens. Techy people usually are in green scales (like the matrix), or in steampunk styles (FFVI and its magitek factories is a great example of this). Stay away from black. No matter HOW much everyone likes it, and no matter how dark it makes everything, it's used to much. Ah, hell, what am I saying? USE BLACK :lol3:

I'll experiment with those colors. I'm still in between shifting from digital from hand drawn coloring, kinda makes me think why I got photoshop in the first place if the stuff I regularly use is also on paint.NET but after some practise and tutorials I will hopefully understand the program more as well as illustrator which I still think is very confusing but I'm begining to get the hang of it.

Gimp is confusing. If I can take a PS tutorial on expert difficulty (which I did), then PS shouldn't take all that time to figure out. Where as gimp on the other hand......... I'm not starting on that xP But yeah. I would contribute, but I'm mostly best at wallpapers or pencil to paper art. Not so much with sprites (lol, ironic, init? SO good at PS, but I suck at making little sprites). If those are talents you need, I can TRY to help.

Just post anything you make so the creation gallery dosn't die that's all. If wallpapers are your think then sure, try making it a title then you have an awesome post. Laugh Glad you want to help keep the creation gallery alive.

I made the first faceset I can say can kinda compete with the commercial ones ( e.g the RTP ones or japanese ones ) finally.

I'll post a tutorial on how to make your own face-set in a bit...

Sticking Out Tongue yup, I'm proud of this one...

O.K, this is going to be a brief tutorial but feel free to ask any questions.

1). Sketch a face with whatever technique you use to draw faces. Look at Mark Crilley's Tutorial for an idea if you have never drawn a face before. I use
this technique myself for all my manga faces lately. Manga done really well looks real so it can give you
some tips if you want that more realistic look.

2).Scan your picture ( Make sure you have gone over it with a dark pencil first or ink. I think a dark pencil is better as you can tweak a mistake easy plus inking takes practice and focus ) Look at my scanned image ( Nima.png ) for an idea of how it should look.

3).Go over it carefully. I used Adobe Illustrator CS3 and a Graphics Tablet to go over it well, I know not everyone has this stuff ( I begged my mom crazy for this stuff... ) but it's the best way of doing this, the fast way is to get Paint.NET, highlight all the white paper with the magic wand. Delet it and make sure all you have left is the outline ( 50% tolerance is good for deleting scanned paper ) then highlight the outline, get a huge brush with a dark color preferably very dark gray not black since you will still have gray spots, after that do the same with dark black. I used to do that before I got Illustrator. If you do have Illustrator watch this Inking With Illustrator for an idea. Use the brush tool, make it small enough to trace the drawing. Make another layer above that drawing. Doube click the drawing image and make it in template format.

4). I used different brushes for different things, look at the different types and experiment after highlighting the desired area e.g eyes with ctrl drag or the black arrow. Just remember when changing brushes to re-size them.

Later I'm going to explain coloring.

NOTE:
That black image is the line art. Click it to view it well.

O.K Coloring.

I don't want to go into this too much as you can find millions of tutorials on this at deviantart.com.

Basically as you all know you need line art ( a drawing that is transparent apart from its outlines )

Here is a tip since most of this is obviouse just add a base layer, shade and proceed with the next layer e.g from skin to hair:

1) Don't make the hair color and skin tone on the same layer. Leave the hair transparent, use an eraser and zoom in real well for accuracy.

2) It's Important to keep a light source in mind, use the shine of the eye for reference this is less important if you are making a simple face but still it's good to have at least some basic shading.

3) You can use effects for the hair or clothes, I used film grain for the hair since its flowy but still thick.

4) When resizing you're face you don't have to resize the actual face if the dimensions are uneven, edit the canvas size to a rounded of uniform figure.

5) Have fun if you get frustrated take a break or you will ruin your work.

Nice faceset there Emanzi. As well as a tutorial. O_o

I personally can't make facesets worth crap and usually use a faceset editor online for that stuff. XD

Yeah... It took a while. I like looking at my old stuff sometimes cause it helps show you how you have improved
Digital Art

I think you could make some nice face-sets too if you really want to like I did. It just takes patience, practice, and perseverance (Don't quote me on that. I'll feel corny :lol3:
