Hello, and welcome the RPG Town Chronicles. This site is a history book of sorts, or a FAQ for this forum, which is so loved by it's members. The page will be updated throughout the life of the Town as more events of interest occur. This is not to say that small bickering will be archived here, so please do not resort to arguing in an attempt to gain notoriety. Having said all of this, let the journey into the history of this forum begin.
Who is in charge?
|
In the beginning, the forum was founded by Kamau. It was a place for the discussion of commercial and homemade RPG's and it was populated by the visitors of Kamau's website, the RPG Palace. At present, the space the Palace and Town are hosted on is owned by Maxy. The administrators of the forum are Maxy, Myonosken, and The Jacket. Maxy and Myonosken oversee the entirety of the site, but are mostly concerned with the content of the RPG Palace. The Jacket has updating access to the Palace, but their main focus falls with the RPG Town. Additionally, a new townie, mewsterus, is currently the Palace administrator while Myonosken and Maxy are indisposed.

An Overview of the Life of the RPG Town
As was mentioned above, the original RPG Town was founded in the early 2001 using the EZBoard forum service by Kamau as a place for discussion of the content of Kamau's website, the RPG Palace. The board didn't really flourish from the start, but it did have a decent following. Members enjoyed the relaxed, humorous atmosphere. Over the course of the first half of 2001, more and more people gradually came to the forum as the popularity of the Palace grew. In the fall of 2001, Kamau added the Town's first two moderators: PaulCuneo and Paul Merril, better known as PaulC and Majin Paul. The fall and winter of 2001 came and went without incident, with the exception of a few memorable threads that are detailed later in this document.
As 2001 faded away and 2002 came in, the activity on the Town picked up. The members which would become the heart of the forum were establishing themselves as regulars, and were producing a great deal of humor along the way. The Palace was continuing to grow and the flourishing community of RPG Maker 2000 was bringing in more members to the forum. It was in the spring of 2002 that the Town became initiated into the world of internet forums, as it got it's feet wet in forum drama. The occasional argument broke out between a couple of members, but they were quickly settled, and the humorous environment was still very much present. Over the summer months, the members of the Town, more affectionately known as "Townies" found themselves with more time to spam and joke on the forums, and this continued to make the General Discussion portion of the forum more attractive to members who would normally only post in the RPG Maker section. Toward the second half of the summer, the idea was born that a move to another type of forum would give more breathing room to the flourishing population. It didn't occur immediately, but the idea that it would happen stayed in the back of everyone's mind. Then, in the late night of Halloween, the move was made suddenly to Proboards. The forum was shiny and fresh. The rules became more strictly enforced until Majin Paul left at the beginning of 2003. PaulC was left as the head of the Town, while the Palace continued to decline drastically from it's past greatness.
The year progressed into the late summer without incident until Kamau, who had been absent for quite some time, announced that he would be shutting down the Palace due to problems in real life. And just like that, the Town was left on it's own. Many people figured that the Town would begin to descend into the abyss of the internet until it died, just as most forums do without a major site to back it. But several days later, Majin Paul came riding back into the now dead Palace, to take it's reigns with PaulC. The two immediately sought hosting and found it in the GamingSource Network. This was a great opportunity for the Palace to become what it once was, with the small change that the name would now be the RPG Source. The new site meant a new home for the Town, and it was moved to InvisionBoards, away from the Proboards which had began to hurt the eyes and minds of those who posted on it. The Townies flocked to the new forum, while new members saw a small but steady increase. The new forum was more relaxed, but didn't have quite as much activity as the Town had enjoyed in the past.
Sadly, the new Town was gone almost as quick as it went. In the early days of Spring when everything seemed to be going wrong for the Town, the GamingSource purged it's database of the RPG Source and the RPG Town without warning. They refused to respond to the e-mails of either of the administrators, but it is assumed that the lack of production from the main site was the cause of the destruction.
It took several days for the Townies, who were now without a home on the internet, to find their way back to the Proboard forums. It wreaked of spam that had been made just as the jump to the new forum was made, but the Townies quickly began to make it back into home. But after a month or so, it seemed that the Town was surely facing it's doom. There was no source of new membership and the sudden loss of their new old home had dampened the spirits of those still around.
Yet the Town refused to die. As though the forum itself has a spirit of it's own, the forum began talks of a new beginning. Enter Majin Paul. With new hosting secured by Magikoopa, the Palace could be started from scratch and molded into the vision that Paul had for the site. A beautiful layout was made in short order by NunoLac and the hollow Palace was being prepped to be given a second life. This time, PaulC departed from the Palace staff to take full control of the RPG Town. But Majin Paul immediately called two assistants in Magikoopa (Known simply as Magi shortly thereafter) and The Jacket. The Palace was soon given a secret blueprint for success, and a new forum promised for the Town. As the spring months turned to summer, the sun seemed to be rising on the Town more..
The summer went slowly, and the opening fall months more so with much bickering between couples of members on the Town, and little or no progress on the site itself. In these months, Majin Paul made a final, sudden exit from the Town with no words to explain the actions. For a short while, the community fell back to the Proboards. The idea that the Town may forever be cursed to the forum seemed to becoming frighteningly more real with each passing day. But in the first days of November, Maxy stepped in - paying for the Town's space and assuming position of Webmaster. The Town and Palace have built on this foundation since then, both showing signs of progress that were not seen in the months preceding it.

Classic Town Moments
Throughout the history of the RPG Town, there have been some moments that surpassed most levels of amazement, hilarity, strangeness, and darkness. This moments are those which have given the Town the life it possesses, and will continue to possess for a long time. Some of these are chronicled below and will be added as memory recalls them, or as they occur.
The Original Town Prank
The first known major joke pulled on the RPG Town was initiated by, who else but Kamau. It wasn't long or drawn out, but his thread which claimed that the RPG Palace and Town would be shut down scared and saddened those who were roaming the growing forum, until they realized that they were being had. While the prank wasn't elaborate or overly hilarious, it was the thread that determined that the Town would be a forum for nonsensical hilarity.
The Flood
In the days while the Town was still young, a member by the name of Koopa Troopa Flya Man took it upon himself to spam the Town half to hell and then back again. The number of times he posted is not certain, but it is rumored that he had 100 or 200 posts on that one day. On a forum that was still a fledgling this was a feat to be admired, not punished. Kamau gave Koopa what is thought to be the first custom title given to a regular Townie: "Super Spammer".
The Thores Towel Incident
*SNAP*
The Psygon War
During the EZBoard life of the Town, a member under the alias of Psygon who had been notorious for his blatant flames and insults who had been temporarily banned once before was reprimanded once again by Majin Paul, and began to argue with him. The details of the argument are sketchy, and both sides had their own story but the result was Psygon sicking another forum on the Town and a spam war ensued. Psygon was banned along with those who attacked with him. Psygon was eventually released back onto the forum after Majin Paul had given up the life of a Townie.
The I-Mockery Incident
In the summer of 2002, a member by the name of The Jacket discovered a site titled the "Church of Mockery" which at the time, offended him to no end. A thread was made entitled "The Worst Site Ever" putting down the site. A Townie by the name of Timrpgland who was a member at I-Mockery's forum's quickly posted a link to Jacket's thread on Mockery's board, which resulted in several of their members registering on the Town and flaming and spamming. The problem was quickly resolved by swift action by Majin Paul who deleted the threads spammed in by these people, and banned them.
August 10th - The Day of the Cow
After winning a contest held by The Jacket concerning the Polybius arcade game, Psygon won the opportunity to be an administrator of the RPG Town for one full day. The day was August 10th, 2003. The Townies awakened that fateful morning to find the Town drenched in cow-dom. From a cow placed in the defaced logo to the black and white cow skin wallpaper, it was truly a day to never be forgotten.
The Deletion of the Town.. or was it?
In the most spontaneous of events, on December 21st, 2004, The Jacket contacted Magi stating that he "accidentally" deleted the RPG Town from the Palace's server. A loose joke which was not intended to last more than a few moments grew into quite a bizarre incident. Somehow, throughout the entire occurrence, Magi did not manage to actually check the forum himself to see the validity of the claim. With quickly thrown together help from PaulC and the RPG Town IRC Channel, Jacket coaxed Magi into beginning to restore the forum in a lengthy prank which caused much laughter amongst the community, mainly those involved. The retelling and logs of the entire incident as it occured across the IRC Channel, AOL Instant Messenger and MSN Instant Messenger are archived in a thread on the RPG Town.
The author's memory is failing him, so if you can recall one of the many classic Town moments with some measure of detail, please send them to thejacket@rpg-palace.com. Miniscule and unimportant occurrences will not be added, sorry. :)

The Townies
Below is a list of the members of the RPG Town who have some claim to fame or are just important enough that you need to know who they are. If you are not on this list, then you have little to live for.
AFIGuy346 (now known as Figgy)
Old school poster and member of the original Spam Squad. At one point, he held a strong love for the band AFI. Whether he still does or not is unknown. While he has no outstanding threads that one can remember him by, you can rest assured that a click on one the rare threads made by Figgy is a click well spent.
Busterman Zero
The first member to crack the 4,000 post mark, one of the oldest Townies, and a proud Canadian. He is involved in a career in the game making industry. His only evidence of his age is a picture which shows him looking at the camera as though it had said something wrong.
Cereal Hunter
Another one of the Town's original regular members. Much like Figgy, he does not have any posts that stick out, but has maintained a great balance of good posts. His single flaw is being an advocate for incest. Cereal Hunter has not been seen in some time on the Town, but is said to be alright according to those with him on their instant messanger buddy lists.
ChickenSoupCheese
Perhaps the most popular of all the Townies, and with the best name you'll find on any forum. CSC is pretty much the total package of a Townie as his posts can be extremely hilarious, or deeply insightful. He maintains a balance of all sorts of posts and has never been in any bad light on the Town.
CrashCoarse
Webmaster of the hilarious, but now non-existant site "Off The Porch Backwards". He remixes songs and is a part-time DJ. For much of his time as a Townie, he had the forum believing that he was a police officer in his 20's when he was in fact a teenager. He has not posted much since the initial move to the Proboards, but in spite of several mishaps that would leave one to believe he was dead or missing, he remains alive and well. He has entertained the forum recently with pictures of he and his friends dressed as the Turks from Final Fantasy VII at a convention in Atlanta.
Indinera Falls
Creator of the popular Laxius Power RPG series. Once a regular poster on the EZBoard forum, he has posted only a handful of times since the move, but continues in his game making career elsewhere.
Kaiser
The only person whose claim to fame is a negative one. Kaiser was known in the booming days of RPG Making for beginning and canceling his projects as quick as he could conceive them. His final attempt to gain respect from the Town was a claim that he would release a demo of a Final Fantasy VII sequel in a matter of days after beginning work on it, only when it failed, he didn't miss a beat and went straight to his next project. The moderation grew tired of him and temp-banned him. He secured himself in the land of those to never returned when he created a duplicate account and impersonated Kamau.
Kamau
The man who started it all. The original webmaster of the RPG Palace and administrator of the RPG Town. He has recently relinquished the reigns of the place to Majin Paul and PaulC, but is still alive and well. He is also the creator of the Legion Saga RPG Series, which is considered to have been one of the pioneer games of the RPG Making world. Kamau has shown up a bit more frequently in recent months, often with wonderful tales and pictures of his drunken endeavors.
Koopa Troopa Flya Man
The original Super Spammer and a Town Legend. His antics in the early days of the Town resulted in the single greatest spam fest the Town has ever seen. He was the holder of the first custom title given to a regular Townie. He is also the creator of the classic quote "Laugh at things funny." He disappeared in 2001 for about a year, then posted a few times before leaving for about another year. He has not been seen on the Town since.
Magikoopa (now known as Magi)
Former administrator on the Palace and Town. His main focus once lay with the RPG Palace and it's content, with some work on the RPG Town, but he has since been banned for involvement in the Khakain attack. He has begun a venture into the mapping and modding of First Person Shooter video games, which long-time friend of the forum Jakey pulled him into.
Majin Paul
Former (three time) administrator and webmaster of the RPG Palace and RPG Town. After his dramatic reappearance that would appear to have been the salvation of the community, Majin Paul disappeared once again in the early fall of 2004 - permanently abdicating his post as webmaster on the forum and site.
Maxy (now unknown as Plissken)
Webmaster of the RPG Palace. After Majin Paul's latest vanishing act, Maxy scooped up the falling site, placing it on what would appear to be it's final domain. His leadership has resulted in progress in the content and substance of the Palace and putting it on the road to build and become better.
NeoPhoenixX
Normally referred to as Ben. He was banned from the Town in 2001 by Kamau for an altercation which involved another argument between a member and the administrator. This one occured through email and MSN, and resulted in a perma-ban dealt to Ben. He was allowed back onto the Town nearly three years later.
PaulC
A former administrator of the RPG Town. Started out as the Town's first moderator other than Majin Paul and worked his way up to administrator. For a few months, he was also the webmaster of the RPG Palace/RPG Source. PaulC was accepted into Harvard in December of 2004.
Psygon
The only Townie to have been to both extremes of membership. At one point, Psygon was given what was intended to be a permanent ban, and later became one of the most respected of the Global Moderators. At one point, he was even an administrator for a day which resulted in the Town being covered in cowskin. Psygon remains a moderator, but has posted only rarely in recent months.
Ricky-K
One of the longest lasting members on the forum. He was one of the first to register on the original RPG Town and has managed to last all this time. Much like Figgy, Ricky's threads are rare, but always worth reading. Ricky left the forum due to problems he saw in late 2004, only to return when he believed that the conditions had improved.
Shiguru Wazzat
Perhaps the coolest Townie on the forum. His beginnings were humble, joining during the period of EZBoard that would have put him into the category of a noob, but made himself over immediately, and is now just one of the Townies. He was once the owner of a site which showed him and his friends hurting themselves through tricks and just sheer insanity.
Sleepy Templar
The leading debater of the forum, and a moderator. Sleepy first appeared on the EZBoard as the first religious discussions and debates were flaring up. He is always well-prepared in his arguments, and can easily destroy an argument that has no basis. Sleepy has not been seen in quite some time and is often busy with Role Playing or college.
The~Inquisitor
A member of many ups and downs in his time on the forum. He was for the most part a normal Townie, who had been around since the EZBoard times, who had great RPG Map-Making skills - until the Columbia Shuttle Incident of 2003. A conversation with the member named Zeephos was posted on the Town which showed The~Inquisitor taking an position of apathy towards the the tragedy which came as something of a surprise to much of the forum. Speculation was made as to whether the conversation was real, until The~Inquisitor articulated his thoughts in the thread. He was eventually put onto the moderation team by Kamau, which lasted until the jump was made to the new administration. He is the brother of now webmaster Maxy.
The Jacket
The author of this document, and older Townie. Seems to always find himself in the middle of something whether good or bad. He began the short-lived remixing fad and continues to make skits and songs. Has been a part of some of the greatest MSN conversations ever had, one of which resulted in the death of Mr. Winkle. Jacket is now an administrator on the RPG Palace and RPG Town, with his main focus and job resting with the forum.
Thores
One of the most respected of all the Townies, and one of the elder members. Thores was the first Global moderator selected on the Proboards. Many times has Thores caused hilarity and concern on the Town. From his towel whipping fiasco on the EZBoard to his un-linked banner to the ever-vaunted Sephie and Yam Koo Pron to the hysterical comics he created about Legion Saga - Thores has never disappointed.
Ultimate Maxim
An older Townie who once had one of the highest post counts you would find on any normal forum. While on EZBoard, Ultimate Maxim accumulated thousands upon thousands of posts across several different forums. He was one of the Townies who always had a post worth reading, and was one of the very few Townies above the age of 19.
Zeephos
One of the longest running members of the forum, and one if the Creation Gallery's best contributors. He has experienced his fair-share of drama on the forum, and was at one point an administrator on one of the largest Naruto communities in existence. Zeephos returned to the Town recently after a long absence.
